The 16-Hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) Course is a mandatory training program for New York State security guards who have completed the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Course and are actively employed in a security position.
Designed to build on introductory training, this course provides the practical knowledge, professional skills, and workplace awareness needed to perform effectively in a variety of security settings.
Throughout the course, participants will explore key topics related to security operations, including legal responsibilities, emergency response procedures, access control, effective communication, customer service, professional ethics, incident documentation, terrorism awareness, and the Incident Command System. Real-world examples and interactive discussions help reinforce best practices and prepare students to handle common situations encountered on the job.
Upon successful completion, students will have met the New York State requirement for the 16-Hour On-the-Job Training course, an essential step in maintaining compliance and advancing their security guard career.
All participants must be 18 years old or above and pass a written examination at the conclusion of class with a grade of at least 70%. The test covers material presented in class and is in a true/false and multiple-choice format. Upon successful completion, students will have met the New York State requirement for the 16-Hour On-the-Job Training course, an essential step in maintaining compliance and advancing their security guard career.
Students must bring a black or blue ink pen to class as well as a valid photo ID card.
