Ready to begin your sourdough journey but not sure where to start? This introductory class will demystify the world of sourdough starters and give you the knowledge and confidence to successfully maintain and bake with your own starter at home.

You'll learn what a sourdough starter is, how it works, and the simple science behind natural fermentation. Through guided instruction, you'll explore proper feeding schedules, ingredient selection, storage methods, and troubleshooting techniques to help keep your starter healthy and active. We'll also discuss the key factors that influence starter performance, including temperature, hydration, timing, and flour choices.

Whether you're brand new to sourdough or feeling overwhelmed by conflicting information online, this class provides a clear, practical foundation for success. You'll leave with a better understanding of how to care for your starter, bake with confidence, and continue your sourdough journey with the skills needed to create delicious homemade breads and baked goods.

Course Outline

1) You will learn about starter composition maintenance and usage.
2) You will leave being able to keep your starter alive and well, and you will also know how to put your starter into dormancy
3) You will learn about the difference between starter, levain, and discard, and how to use each of them properly.
4) You will walk away from class learning the basics of sourdough fermentation, what affects it, and how to manipulate it based on your schedule and environment.
