Ukrainian Egg Decorations

The art of pysanky (egg decoration) is a cultural tradition that has existed for thousands of years in Ukraine. Using beeswax and special candle-heated writing tools, intricate designs are applied to the egg through a method of alternating wax application and dye baths. This class provides a full description of the necessary tools and techniques, as well as an introduction to the history and symbolism of the traditional colors and designs.

Participants can create an egg using the provided materials. All skill levels are welcome: beginner, intermediate, and advanced designs are available. This course meets at West Middle School, West Middle Avenue, Binghamton.
